Despite sounding more like a sneeze than a game, despite the old game engine, despite the floaty physics and naff sounds, Nexuiz is surprisingly fun! It’s a completely free stand-alone deathmatch game built on the Quake engine.

In a similar vein, quality class based mod Tremulous for Q3 is probably going to be made a stand-alone download now the Quake 3 source is out there - I hope this becomes a trend for the many other great Q3A mods out there like Urban Terror.
