Freeware Games

I’ve had this sitting on a Firefox tab for months - since I’m too lazy to bookmark it I might as well blog it! The AnandTech forums (Anand rocks for reliable tech news and reviews, incidentally) have up a monster list of free games like Armagetron (tron light bikes game, great for LAN parties) and Worms-clone Gunbound.

Xbox 360 Store

Looks like Microsoft might be plonking one down in Times Square - that’d be hella pricey. At the very least there’d be more point to it than the Gizmondo store.

iFlicks and Video iPod

They’ve got to be doing this. They’d be crazy not to. They’ve already got a huge head start on music downloads. Jumping into movies too with both digital distribution and portable playback hardware would make them a mint all over again. September 7th is the big day, though Apple admitedly hype the hell out of every new hardware announcement, even the slightly upgraded new Power Books.

“1,000 songs in your pocket changed everything,'’ the invitation reads, in a clear allusion to the 2001 introduction of the iPod. “Here we go again.'’

Of course, both things have been quietly rumoured before but mutterings on the grapevine somehow seem louder this time. Here we go again indeed.

PlayStation Button Meanings

I should have worked this out. Maru (circle) and batsu (cross) are Japanese equivalents of tick and cross - I got plenty of both when I studied Japanese. This also explains why (contrary to US PSPs) circle is select and cross is cancel on my Japanese PSP. The more you know!

Game.Machines

An encyclopedia of gaming hardware. For just shy of 20 quid you can have a full catalog of games machines across the decades - 33 years, 6,00 pictures, 224 pages and over 400 machines.

PC Gamer Podcast

Two things I may have mentioned before - Podcasts have yet to impress me, ditto the American PC Gamer due to it’s often dry writing style. Strange, then, that the two have come together to create something good! The PC Gamer Podcast is a bunch of guys from the mag talking about recent events and it’s funny and interesting in turn. The first show also interviews Chris Taylor of Gas Powered games. Hear for yourself. (via VE3D)

Great to see a new worthwhile gaming radio show. XGR has frozen, Daily Dementia doesn’t do games anymore, and Blue’s show on Pseudo.com has been off air for years.

Pandora’s Music Box

I’m already seriously impressed by Pandora. It’s like Music Plasma in that it’s a great way to find new music similar to what you already like. They’re very different in how they both work though, both come highly recommended for music lovers everywhere.

Stand Alone Quake Mods

Despite sounding more like a sneeze than a game, despite the old game engine, despite the floaty physics and naff sounds, Nexuiz is surprisingly fun! It’s a completely free stand-alone deathmatch game built on the Quake engine.

In a similar vein, quality class based mod Tremulous for Q3 is probably going to be made a stand-alone download now the Quake 3 source is out there - I hope this becomes a trend for the many other great Q3A mods out there like Urban Terror. Q3F is of course stand-alone now in the form of ETF. Who loves ya id? We loves ya.

BBC TV Online!

As far as I’m concerned, the BBC just keeps on earning that license fee. No mention of a date yet but they’re planning to both stream BBC 1 and 2 and offer shows for download. Brilliant to see.

Welcome to PixelKill.com

You made it! Good job. By all means let me know what you think of the tweaked design here by posting in the comments and remember to grab the new feed if you’re an RSS person.

Serial Filler

Serial numbers are a pain in the neck. If that wasn’t bad enough, games like Chaos Theory have two. Well, let me present two little tools to ease the pain. First, Shadowdane’s CDKey, a nice little app somewhat like Password Corral but for storing CD keys. Once you’ve got your serials stored you can use PasteSN to paste them into all thoser boxes in one go. Handy or what?

Rio Carbon C

This almost got released. Sounds like it would have been a killer MP3 player but sadly Rio is no more. Sometimes, life’s a bitch like that.
