Pixel Solar System

1 pixel = 1000km. If you didn’t realise quite how vast the universe is, this look at our immense little corner of it might just help.

BBC TV Online!

As far as I’m concerned, the BBC just keeps on earning that license fee. No mention of a date yet but they’re planning to both stream BBC 1 and 2 and offer shows for download. Brilliant to see.

Flock It

Yet another browser. This one sounds interesting though - Flock integrates with Flickr, uses del.icio.us directly as your bookmarks system and makes blogging a piece of cake.

The idea is to make it more than a tool to browse with, to hook into the parts of the internet which you contribute to - a proper two way internet tool in other words. No word on RSS though, surely the final piece of the puzzle if they want to make (shameless re-)blogging easier.

Apple piePod

Ah boy, it’s been far too long since I last watched some Weebl and Bob. Their latest is a great takeoff of the iPod commercials. I should explain something before you proceed - they like pie. Mmm, pie.

Printer Webcam

Type in your name and text, pick a colour, submit and then wait for it to print out. I do indeed weep for the trees, though this is cool in a particularly geeky way.

Slashdotted

Eek! Cutting down the front page to two posts for now to ease the bandwidth pressure. By all means browse the archives on the right though.

Internet Addiction Clinic

Choice quote: "It’s been good to sleep". There are some pretty severe cases mentioned in the article though, it’s not as funny as it might sound. Kids dropping out of school (and worse) in Beinjing due to chat room addiction? Damn. (via Shack)

Google Earth Launches

With this and Google Video, they’ve just taken another big step towards… well, being even bigger. I’m playing with Google Earth now and it’s pretty cool though I’ve yet to try the actual useful features such as route planning. When you zoom in it takes a while to stream in the data but I just zoomed in from a picture of the globe down to a playing field in Kingston, Jamaica. Neato.

Blog Tool Comparison Table

I’ve been looking for something like this for a while (or in English if you prefer). Sadly I can’t spot one that does WYSIWIG, image uploading/thumbnailing, TypePad importing, comments and template editing. Not sure why Moveable Type is so devoid of useful features compared to TypePad either since both are from SixApart. Ah well, the search for my ideal self-hosted blog tool continues. Hmm, Plog might fit the bill actually…

Opera Boss Bitter?

Seems like it to me, and to some degree that’s fair enough given that Opera has offered much of what Firefox offers for years now. The thing is, while it seemed quite fast and feature-laden last time I tried, Opera isn’t free. You’ve got to cough up or suffer ads.

They’ve certainly got more business sense than Netscape ever did (for example their mobile stuff is doing well) but fact is they’ll never be as big as even Firefox because the only business model open to them limits their market. And, well, that’s tough really.

Odeo Beta

I’m in, and it works just fine. I didn’t know half of it was website based but browsing and queueing podcasts is easy anyway. The simple fact that it can sort by popularity makes it better than all the other podcast tools I’ve tried, and everything is nicely categorised too. If this explodes in popularity it will be a good thing indeed.

Google Page Ranking Secrets

I know, I know, Pixel Kill a.k.a. Google Fanboy Blog. Hey, this stuff is fairly interesting. Google recently filed a patent which spilled a whole can of beans on some of their page ranking methods. For instance, if your domain is less than a year old thats counts against you. Read the article to find out why. (via digg, again)
