1100 Games Developed, Yet You’ve Never Heard of Them

Admitedly many of those were mobile titles, but even so, Tose is probably the largest games developer you’ve never heard of. 27 years in business, 1000 staff, 9 studios and 1100 games, yet they almost always insist that their name not appear on the box. Gamasutra has an interview with this massive, secretive games company.

In an industry where games are getting increasingly expensive to produce, and therefore publishers are willing to take less risks, I think mobile gaming could be the segment to watch.

With limited screen size and memory, mobile games developers have to be innovative and willing to produce the kind of games we used to see in the 8- and 16-bit console eras. There’s a lot of rubbish out there, but I have seen some gems too.

Mobile graphics are improving at an incredible rate too.

The problem is, they’re *re*-producing those 16 bit titles. Limitations can encourage innovation but we’re still not seeing it in mobile games particularly.

You obviously haven’t played Mosquitos (camera-controlled shoot ‘em up) or The Journey (location based adventure) then. :)
