Big Screen to DVD, Sharpish

Maybe I haven’t been paying attention but aren’t films being released on DVD rather quickly these days? A summer cinemas release means a DVD release in time for Christmas these days. That’ll be Batman Begins and Revenge of the Sith sitting on the Christmas wish list this year then. (I used TheForce)

Lego Batman Movie

A CG Batman movie rendered to look like it’s done in Lego! Even better, Batman is voiced by Adam West and Mark Hamill voices The Joker. Fun stuff indeed, the Lego fight scenes in particular. (via 4cr)

Stop Motion Star Destroyer

Going by the "I missed it so you probably did too" principle, this is two years old but nonetheless excellent. A couple built the massive Star Destroyer Lego set over 10 hours and strung together 5000 shots of them doing it to make stop motion fun. (via digg again)

Star_destroyer

This insanely fiddly construction effort reminds me of a great Photochop from Fark of an IKEA guide to building the Death Star. Laughter guaranteed. It’s
saved at work, must dig it up and repost it here tomorrow.

The Jailed Crusader

Someone at work pointed out this great look at just how much legal trouble Batman would be in from his recent big screen antics. Use of excessive force, illegal stock dealings and plenty more. Spoilers aplenty though. (From Overlawyered)

Store Wars

Deeply silly Star Wars parody with a serious message (organic food is good, mkay). Tofu-D2, Chewbrocolli… good stuff. Watch it. (via linkbunnies)

Best Movie Quotes Ever

Or not. No Aliens ("That’s it man, game over man, game over!")? No Predator ("Ain’t got time to bleed!")? No Evil Dead ("Good, bad, I’m the guy with the gun")? Pah. At least Terminator 2’s in there (well, and a lot of other great movies too, granted).

New Gilliam Movie

Terry Gilliam is mad as a hatter, which is probably why he makes such delighful films. Next up, The Brothers Grimm. Total fiction it seems rather than being particularly based on the real brothers, but even so it looks like pure Gilliam, fabulous fantasy.

Grimm

Of course, Monica Beluci is in it which can’t hurt either. Oh, and Matt Damon doing a posh accent (ditto Aussie Heath Ledger)! I swear I won’t be able to watch Matt Damon again without thinking of Team America, poor chap. (via I’m a Human Inbox)

Stephenson on Star Wars

One of my favourite authors meets one of my favourite sci-fi settings! The ever-articulate Neal Stephenson with a particularly intelligent look at the entire Star Wars saga for the NY Times. No login? Try bugmenot. (via Boing Boing)

If you watch the movie without doing the prep work, General Grievous - who is
supposed to be one of the most formidable bad guys in the entire "Star Wars"
cycle - will seem like something that just fell out of a Happy Meal.

I can’t say I see this as a bad thing myself. I know some people hate having to work to see the extra stuff (such as the Animatrix or Clone Wars) but I love it when a casual film-goer can enjoy the movie as it stands, whereas someone who is more into the story can explore and enjoy it further.

Batman Begins

The film is a lot of fun, the characters, story and settings great and there are lots of Brits on board too. However I’m also tired, and therefore lazy, so I recommend 4 colour rebellion’s longer review which hits the nail mostly on the head. I thought the action scenes were sometimes a little too angle-switchy (what happened to great fights in a single shot?) but overall, great film, excellent translation of the comic book character and story.

DJ Daft Fader

Some guy remixing/scratching using the Imperail March. Better than it sounds, particularly past half way through. Unless you really, really hate Star Wars and/or scratching.

Darth

On a slightly related note, am I the only one who doesn’t find the Orange/Darth Maul cinema ad even remotely funny?

Narnia Trailer

This could have been so terrible, but instead the trailer looks fantastic. I got tingles just watching, it brought back fond memories of reading the books.

George Lucas Interview

It’s a surprisingly interesting, unapolagetic read. I’ll be seeing the 9 o’clock session of Revenge of the Sith on release day with work people. Life is good.
